Description

Camera trap data package from the Wildlife Observatory of Australia's Wildlife Camera Database. Dataset ID: QLD_Chital_Quinn_2022-2024_WildObsID_0011. The main aim of this research project is to monitor chital deer (Axis axis) in their invaded range of the north Queensland dry tropics bioregion. Specifically, we intend to estimate density and abundance of the species, exploring both unmarked and marked methods (marked methods will incorporate a spot pattern algorithm to individually identify chital, and is currently in the works). We deployed 40 camera traps using Bushnell Aggressor No Glow HD Trophy Camera units exclusively. We selected camera locations following a systematic random sampling study design. A rectangular array of proposed camera trap locations was overlaid over the study area using ArcGIS (ESRI), and we incorporated a distance of 1000 m between adjacent locations.
