Description

"This collaborative project conducted by CSIRO and Curtin University aims to generate data and identify strategies to enable higher value recovery from used tyres and conveyor belts in WA by redirecting waste to resource recovery and addressing challenges related to logistics and cost, to guide investment and policy decisions. Informing those decision requires science and research to: • Establish a good understanding of the volumes and location of used tyres and conveyor belt arisings in WA • Map existing collection and recycling infrastructure capacity and logistics • Undertake analysis of market potential for recyclates produced from used tyres and conveyor belts in WA including identifying opportunities for regional (and if possible, also indigenous) businesses and communities • Identify environmental impacts that result from on-site disposal of used tyres and conveyor belts • Co-develop strategies to increase value recovery from used tyres and conveyor belts in WA with government and industry participants to enable regulatory and policy decisions to be informed by the science."
