Description

Providing context on how climate change is impacting extreme weather and seasons

With increasing risks from extreme events, we need to understand the impacts of climate change.

By studying past extreme events, this project is improving our understanding of the role of natural variability and climate change. With new science on the large-scale influences of our climate – from the atmosphere over Antarctica to the tropical oceans, and interactions with climate change – we can better understand our changing climate risk.

This project also provides expert input into publications from other organisations, including the Bureau of Meteorology’s Special Climate Statement 78, Prolonged heatwave conditions in south-west Western Australia in November 2023.

      "text": "Providing context on how climate change is impacting extreme weather and seasons\n\nWith increasing risks from extreme events, we need to understand the impacts of climate change.\n\nBy studying past extreme events, this project is improving our understanding of the role of natural variability and climate change. With new science on the large-scale influences of our climate – from the atmosphere over Antarctica to the tropical oceans, and interactions with climate change – we can better understand our changing climate risk.\n\nThis project also provides expert input into publications from other organisations, including the Bureau of Meteorology’s Special Climate Statement 78, Prolonged heatwave conditions in south-west Western Australia in November 2023.",
