Description

Working in partnership with the National Landcare Network (NLN), the Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and NRM Regions Australia, we will collect information from Landcare groups and threatened-species recovery teams about activities their members have been involved in across Australia. Spatially delineated and quantifiable data will be integrated with other publicly available data and analysed using a variety of statistical methods to identify: • locally and nationally relevant variables (indicators) that can be used to assess and monitor the varied ecological, social and/or economic outcomes of those activities (‘successes’ and/or co-benefits) consistently across Australia at multiple scales (aligning with Ecological Monitoring System Australia [EMSA] protocols where appropriate) • trade-offs and/or synergies between the perceptions and objectives of people who work at different scales (e.g. individuals, groups, network coordinators) • trade-offs and/or synergies between different types of success/co-benefits (e.g. between improvements in social capital and habitat condition or population size for threatened species) • socioeconomic and institutional factors that contribute to, or detract from, different types of success/co-benefit, with changing climates, in different contexts. Insights gleaned through this work will generate information that NLN, threatened-species recovery teams and NRM Regions Australia can leverage to design programs and demonstrate their success (co-benefits) at multiple geographic scales.
