Description

This project aims to create a wetland monitoring and management toolkit tailored to support the Indigenous ranger network in northern Australia. Focusing on the Kimberley as a case study, the project will review regional wetland monitoring, refine monitoring tools through existing partnerships, and facilitate a knowledge exchange workshop. Co-designed with Indigenous ranger groups, the toolkit will incorporate western-science monitoring and Indigenous knowledge systems, within the context of local aspirations, cultural obligations and threats to people and Country – an integrated landscape approach. The main objective of the project is to empower Indigenous managers to plan, implement and evaluate wetland monitoring projects and make informed decisions about managing and restoring resilience in these freshwater systems.
