Description
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are less likely to be diagnosed with childhood cancers, but are also less likely to survive. By understanding how they tolerate treatment, their side effects experienced and long-term outcomes, we can modify future treatments and better manage their side effects for better survival/quality of life. Conduct a retrospective cohort study on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, diagnosed at PMH/PCH between 2000 and 2020. Factors including sex, age, location of residence, survival, short- and long-term side effects will be examined.
Project is a small proportion of a larger project with all childhood cancers being reviewed from the same timeframe mentioned above. Focusing on AML is for practicality for the capstone project as well as offering the larger project a focus on specifical treatments/side effects in AML experienced by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
