Description

This project examines whether herpes zoster (HZ) vaccination reduces the risk of new dementia diagnoses. Using Lumos data, we aim to replicate earlier findings from the PenCS dataset, comparing outcomes in those aged 70–79 (eligible for vaccination in 2016) with those aged 80 and over (not eligible). With no cure for dementia and rising case numbers, identifying modifiable risk factors is critical. This analysis offers quasi-experimental evidence that may inform immunisation policy and support broader efforts to reduce the burden of dementia through prevention.
