Descriptions

Description

Experiencing homelessness during pregnancy poses many significant risks for adverse health and wellbeing outcomes for mothers and babies, with international literature showing that homeless mothers are less likely to access antenatal care and their babies have an increased risk of premature birth, low birth weight, and risk factors for poorer child development. Precarious housing and trauma also impact capacity to access postnatal care, child health services, and parenting support; in turn having serious repercussions for child health and development. Moreover, homelessness increases the risk of babies being put into state care in WA.
