Description
The research question associated with this project is “Can reliability and validity be established for testing protocols of the calf muscle that aim to closely replicate the functional demands placed on the calf muscle complex during running and field-based sports? The aims of this project are: 1. To develop a testing battery that assesses MVIC force outputs of the calf in both a vertical and horizontal plane, in a multi-joint position that replicates running demands. a. To assess ground reaction forces in the horizontal and vertical planes during a common calf rehabilitative exercise. 2. To establish the reliability of an isometric and dynamic assessment of calf muscle function. 3. To establish the validity of an isometric and dynamic assessment of calf muscle function. The insights from the MVIC testing battery and rehabilitative exercise performance have the potential to detect athletes at risk of CMSI and to improve rehabilitative practices following CMSI.
