Descriptions

Description
Short, conscious gynaecological procedures are performed regularly at Women and Newborn Health Services (WNHS) as an essential component of caring for women. This service contributes significantly to “A life course approach to health” as defined by the National Women’s Health Strategy 2020-2030 (2019), by way of preventative health, diagnosis, treatment and management of gynaecological conditions. Anecdotal evidence from staff at King Edwards Memorial Hospital (KEMH) caring for patients undergoing these procedures, suggests there is a variation amongst patients’ experience of this service. Aim This project aims to understand clinician’s perspectives and describe their experience regarding the provision of care for patients undergoing short, conscious gynaecological procedures to optimise care provision and identify areas for improvement. Methodology Utilising a lens of quality improvement as defined by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC et al., 2023), this project will adopt a qualitative descriptive design to capture the perspectives of health professionals. Significance Understanding the perspective of fellow clinicians on what their colleagues feel is done well and areas for improvement will provide evidence to assist in improving this model of service delivery.
