Description

This study aims to explore the impact the Olympic games has on participation rates in sporting clubs and the impact that this four year cycle has on participation rates in schools across Western Australia. The data was collected from, Swimming Western Australia, Athletics West and Independent school in Western Australia. In this study there is a trend analysing the increase of participation rates in sporting clubs after the Olympics every four years from 2015 to 2024. The data is categorised yearly participation rates from Swimming Western Australia (WA), Athletics West. As well as the impact the Olympics has on Independent schools participation in swimming and athletics. These results indicate that there is a four-year cycle impacting sporting clubs’ for both swimming and athletics participation. Likewise there is a correlation impacting positively on Independent schools. This study also serves as a guide to make recommendations that schools consider adapting programs with the potential to see greater participation co-synced with the four year Olympics cycle.
